Castro, Smith set to exchange vows

Barbara Robinson of Lafayette and Troy Castro of Houston, Texas, are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Kadie Leigh Castro of Meaux, to Jacob Allen Smith of Scott.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Rae Brodnax of Lafayette, the late Bill Brodnax and the late Thomas Robinson, and of the late Jeannette and Robert Castro of Meaux.
She graduated from Vermilion High School in 2010 before attending McNeese State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. In addition to pursuing her Master of Business Administration degree at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Kadie is presently employed as an intensive care unit nurse and trauma performance improvement coordinator at Lafayette General Hospital.
The prospective groom is the son of Darlene G. and Kent Smith of Roberts Cove.
He is the grandson of Elaine and Herbert Gossen of Roberts Cove, and of Loretta Smith Leonards of Crowley and the late Gene Smith.
Jacob is a 2006 graduate of Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette before earning a Master of Business Administration degree from Louisiana State University. He is currently clinical nurse manager at Lafayette General Hospital.
The couple will be wed on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020, during a 6 p.m. ceremony in the chapel of First Baptist Church in Lafayette.
Following their wedding, they will make their home in Scott.

Child injured in hit and run

An 11-year-old child riding his bicycle in Crowley Sunday afternoon was injured when he was struck by a pick-up truck.
The driver fled the accident scene.
The incident occurred at approximately 2 p.m. in Crowley on South Avenue O.
Neighbors who heard the crash called 911.
According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle involved was a silver new model dually pickup believed to be a Ford or Dodge with an extended cab.
The child was taken to a local hospital but subsequently airlifted to New Orleans for treatment.
Anyone with further information is asked to call the Crowley Police Dept. at 783-1234.

Dorothy Danum Foreman

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2019, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for Dorothy Danum Foreman, 97, who passed away Dec. 28, 2019, at Encore Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Fr. Mikel Polson, pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, will be officiating for the services. The family is requesting to have no public visitation. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Dorothy, or “Moma Dot” as she was affectionately called, led a full and robust life. In her teens she was a star basketball player for Crowley High School (1939 graduate) and was a lifeguard. As an adult “Moma Dot” had many hobbies but her passion was bowling. She began bowling in the mid-60’s and continued through the turn of the century. She held many bowling league offices and also coached.
Her professional life of 48 years in nursing was her greatest pride besides family. She was employed by hospitals, doctors and service professionals and held in high esteem by those in her profession.
The family finds solace in the fact that exactly one week prior to her death, their beloved Mother was preceded in death by her baby daughter, Becky Fogleman, who helped prepare her mother’s glorious path to Heaven. Rest in Peace our Beloved Mother.
She is survived by three daughters, Deanna Meaux Bryant of Metairie, Mona Meaux Cart and her husband Joel of Iota and Penny Meaux Edwards of Broussard; seven grandchildren, Keith Danum Bryant and wife Stephanie, Kristin Bryant Dantin and husband Derek, Rhonda Trahan Hamic and husband Stephen, Lyndie Trahan Kuffler and husband Keith, Devon Raye Fogleman, Alex Michael Fogleman and Jace Allen Fogleman; and her son-in-law, Michael Fogleman.
“Moma Dot” is preceded in death by her former husband, L.J. Meaux; her husband, Brady Foreman; her daughter, Becky Meaux Fogleman; her parents, Edward and Gladys DaCosta Danum; two sisters, Marguerite Danum Uzzo and Edna Danum Corkin; one brother, Jackie Danum; one granddaughter, Paige Alexandra Fogleman; and son-in-law, Marion D. Edwards.

Lawrence A. Mire

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, Dec. 30, 2019, at 1 p.m. at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Lawrence A. Mire, 71, who passed away Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019, at 11:41 a.m. at the Ellington in Rayne.
Pastor Berl Adams, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Church Point will be officiating for the services. Burial will be held in Abshire Cemetery in rural Kaplan.
The family has requested the visitation to be held on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019, at 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley. Visitation will resume on Monday, 8 a.m. until time of services.
Survivors include two sons, James Mire of Rayne and Lynn and wife Amy Mire of Iota; one daughter, Jessica Mire of Crowley; two sisters, Debbie Monceaux of Crowley and Eula Garrie of Roberts Cove.
Mr. Mire was preceded in death by his parents, Minus and Mercedes P. Mire; and one brother, Calvin Mire.

Zena B. Leger

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 28, at 10 a.m. in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Zena B. Leger, 105, who passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2019, at 6 a.m. at Camelot Place in Rayne.
Deacon Butch Hebert, officiated for the services.
Burial was in North Hanks Cemetery in Rayne.
The family had requested the visitation to be held on Friday, Dec. 27, at 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel. A Rosary was recited on Friday at 7 o’clock in the evening in the funeral home chapel. Visitation resumed on Saturday, Dec. 28, at 8 a.m. until time of services.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty Broussard of Rayne; Joyce and husband Ronald Nero of Crowley, Anna and husband Dennis Ardoin of Welsh; two sons, Larry and wife Chris Leger of Crowley, Paul Jr. and wife Bertha Leger of Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Ms. Leger was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Leger Sr.; one son-in-law, Donald Broussard; her parents, one sister and three brothers.
