Lady Wolves midway through positive district schedule

RAYNE - Despite a rough start for the Lady Wolves’ 2019-2020 volleyball season, Rayne High began district play with a bang an a 4-0 start.
Rayne opened district play at Crowley High where they captured a win including four sets (25-21, 25-12, 23-25, 25-15).
Stats for the Lady Wolves included:
Lexie Marks - 3 aces, 9 digs
Grayce Dupuis - 2 aces
Nae Francis - 21 digs
Ava Thibodeaux - 3 aces, 4 digs
Emma Guidry - 9 kills, 3 digs, 2 blocks
Camille McClelland - 4 kills, 2 digs, 3 blocks
Elizabeth Daigle - 2 kills, 3 digs, 14 assists, block
Makayla Dronet - 7 kills, 2 digs, 4 blocks, ace
Jalayna Wilridge - 5 kills, 5 blocks
The Lady Wolves returned home on October 1st where they hosted Church Point and improved their district tally to 2-0 in another 4-set match (23-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-14).

Rayne hit the road again on October 8 when grabbed a three-set win at Northwest (25-18, 25-10, 25-15).

The Lady Wolves increased their district tally to 4-0 with a home win on October 10 over Livonia (25-18, 25-20, 25-21).

The Lady Wolves were schedule to host Crowley High and Church Point this week, followed by a visit from Sam Houston on October 21 and the anticipated Pink Game on October 23 when they host ASH of Grand Coteau.
PINK GAME
The Lady Wolves will again join forces with the Academy of the Sacred Heart to host the annual Pink Game on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Rayne High School.
“Volling For A Cure” action will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the RHS north gym in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The annual event is held to raise awareness and funds for the Miles Perret Cancer Center Services.
Fans can attend the “Volling For A Cure” game free by wearing a Volleying For Cure t-shirt or $3 for any pink shirt.
Decorations will “paint the gym pink” for the special event, plus door prizes will be awarded throughout the match.
Donations are also welcomed for the fundraising event.

Miss Merry Christmas, Master Noel Pageants slated Nov. 3

RAYNE - The 2019 Annual Miss Merry Christmas and Master Noel Pageants will be held Sunday, Nov. 3, at the Green Room near the Rayne Civic Center.
Gamma Kappa Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and the City of Rayne are again joining forces as co-sponsors for the annual event.
Applications now being accepted from all first and second grade students with a Rayne address. Registration is $25 for each entry. Pre-registration is encouraged, but door registration will be accepted.
The contest for boys and girls will be held at 1 p.m. at the Green Room of the Rayne Civic Center Complex.
Attire for the contest is Sunday best for both the male and female contestants.
The new king and queen will be awarded a crown, banner and trophy. First and second runners-up will receive trophies.
Entry forms for the contest were sent home with first and second grader students at Martin Petitjean Elementary and Rayne Catholic Elementary, and are also available by contacting Chairperson Ginger Comeaux at 334-9467 after 5:30 p.m.
All participants are invited to participate in the 2019 City of Rayne Christmas Parade on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 6 p.m. with the new Miss Merry Christmas and Master Noel taking their honored place with Santa Claus on his sleigh float.

Kalen Marie "Kasey” Menier

RAYNE - Funeral services for Kalen Marie “Kasey” Courville Menier, 51, of Rayne, was held Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at 1 p.m. in Gossen Funeral Home Chapel, Rayne.
Deacon Barry LeBlanc officiated the services. Interment followed in St. Joseph Cemetery No. 2, Rayne.
Visitation was held on Friday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. in Gossen Funeral Home, Rayne. Visitation continued on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 8 a.m. until service time in the funeral home.
Kasey passed away on Monday, Oct. 7, at Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice in Lafayette.
Kasey has worked as office manager at Auto Tech in Rayne for many years. She was an avid reader and she loved spending time with and caring for her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Jim Fontenot of Rayne; daughters, Miranda Hopkins and husband Roy of Bokchito, Oklahoma, Heather Menier and fianceé Jason Comeaux of Rayne, Bethany Menier of Rayne, and April Savoy and husband, Timothy of Rayne; parents, Marie Courville Bergeron and George Bergeron Sr. of Mamou; sisters, Mary Williams and husband Joshua of Mamou and Gina Truax and husband Stephen of Mamou; brothers, Clayton Bergeron of Mamou, Dale Bergeron and wife Paula of Church Point, George “Busta” Bergeron Jr. and wife Dana of Lanse Meg, and Kenneth Bergeron, Sr. and wife Priscilla of Leonville; grandchildren, Harley Hopkins, Mason Babineaux, Emma Menier, Jordan Savoy and Judd Savoy; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding Kasey in death was her grandmother, Theresa Guilbeaux Courville.
Serving as pallbearers were Mason Babineaux, Patrick “P.J.” Menier II, George “Busta” Bergeron Jr., Dale Bergeron, Joshua Williams and Devin Savoy.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staffs of Lafayette General Medical Center ICU and Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice in Lafayette for the kindness, compassion, and care shown to Kasey and her family.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home, Inc. of Rayne, LA, 334-3141.

Enola Dugas Melancon

MIRE - Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, at a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Mire, for Enola Dugas Melancon, 95, who died Wednesday, Oct. 9, at her residence in Mire.
Interment was in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery in Mire.
Very Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington, Pastor of St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, was the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and conducted the funeral services.
Survivors include two daughters, Marlene M. Terro of Rayne and Judy Melancon of Mire; three sons, Richard Melancon of Church Point, Patrick Melancon and spouse Charlotte of Mire and Daniel Melancon and spouse Judy of Mire; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Hugh Dugas of Massachusetts and Vernon Dugas and spouse Burice of Baton Rouge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Melancon; great-granddaughter, Madilyn Boyer; father, Ambrose Dugas; mother, Edmaze Ancelet Dugas; three sisters, Gertie Breaux, Laurence Dugas and Eva Dell Dugas; and three brothers, Paul Dugas, Percy Dugas and Curtis Dugas.
Pallbearers were Keith Terro, Chuck Terro, Lester Terro, Dwayne Dugas, Danny Melancon, Devin Melancon, Derrick Melancon, Kevin Melancon, Michael Melancon, Dylan Melancon, John Melancon and Vincent Breaux.
A Rosary was prayed Thursday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne.
The family requested visitation be observed in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, on Thursday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Friday, Oct. 11, from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
