Barousse re-elected

Robert T. “Robby” Barousse has been re-elected to his sixth consecutive term as Acadia Parish’s Clerk of Court, according to complete but unofficial returns Saturday night.
Barousse held off challenger Emily Stoma in what many say was the parish’s most hotly contested election this term.
Barousse finished with 10,778 votes, or 62.22 percent, while Stoma garnered 6,545 votes, or 37.78 percent.
First elected in 2000, Barousse ran on his record in office, touting an office that operates on self-generated funds, utilizing a streamlined budget to operate within its means.
For Stoma, who unsuccessfully ran for mayor of Crowley last year, the main plank in her platform was “change,” pointing out that “the Barousse family has held the position (of Clerk of Court) for 67 years.”
But Barousse promised at the conclusion of the Sept. 11 candidates’ forum, “When you wake up on Oct. 13, there will still be a Barousse in the Clerk of Court’s office.”
