New $4 million vehicle rental facility coming to Lafayette Regional Airport
Effie Abshire Ruptier
RAYNE - A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Effie Abshire Ruptier, 88, of Rayne, will be celebrated on Monday, April 22, 2019, at 1 p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rayne. Father Christopher Cambre, Associate Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, will serve as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery No. 2, Rayne.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 22, from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in Gossen Funeral Home, Rayne, with a rosary being recited at 10 a.m.
Mrs. Ruptier passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2019, in a Lafayette health care facility.
A native of Gueydan, Mrs. Ruptier was a long-time resident of Rayne. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she served as a member of Ladies Altar Society and Catholic Daughters of America. She was active in the Rayne community as a member of Lions Club and African Violet Club.
Survivors include her step-daughter, Mary Alice Petitjean of Rayne; grandson, Jonathon Petitjean; nephews, Connie Melancon and wife, Janet of Egan, David Melancon and wife, Marlene of Rayne, and Yancy Melancon and wife, Kim of Grand Junction, CO; nieces, Paula Roberts and husband, Calvin of Breaux Bridge, Jessica Roger and husband, Joe of Erath, and Tina Gautreaux and husband, Keith Lenormand of Sunset, along with other relatives and friends.
Preceding Mrs. Ruptier in death were her husband, Henry Ruptier; parents, Gladue Abshire and Angelle Bonin Abshire; grandson, Jason Petitjean; and sister, Mary Lorina Abshire Gautreaux.

James Herbert LaBauve Sr.
RAYNE - Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at a 2:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial at Assumption of the BVM Catholic Church in Mire, LA for James Herbert LaBauve Sr., 74, who died Saturday, April 20, 201,9 at his residence in Rayne.
Interment will be in the Assumption of the BVM Cemetery in Mire.
Rev. Msgr. Jefferson DeBlanc, Pastor of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene Ann Cormier LaBauve of Rayne; three daughters, Tessa LaBauve of Lafayette, Louanna LaBauve of Rayne and Tammy LaBauve of Rayne; son, Jeremy LaBauve of Rayne; six grandchildren, Tannah LaBauve, Gavin LaBauve, Adalynn Meche, Ashley Lavergne, Ronald Lavergne Jr. and Shelby LaBauve; sister, Kathy Logue Bellon of Lake Charles; twin brother, John Herbert LaBauve and spouse Grace of Lake Charles; and brother, John LaBauve and spouse Faye of Melville.
He was preceded in death by two sons, James Herbert LaBauve Jr. and Kevin LaBauve; parents, Cesear LaBauve and Veronica Mae Richard LaBauve; and two sisters, Bonnie LaBauve Marcantel and Rachael LaBauve Mogged.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy LaBauve, Gavin LaBauve, Tannah LaBauve, Noochie Credeur, Wa Credeur, Chad Cormier, Kyle Leger and Michael "T-Mike" Cormier. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Hubert LaBauve, John LaBauve and Tammy LaBauve.
A Rosary will be prayed Monday, April 22, at 7 p.m. in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne on Monday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Tuesday, April 23, from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m..

Carl Damon Sonnier
Carl Damon Sonnier was born to Joseph Oscar Sonnier Sr. and Theresa Johnson Sonnier on Dec. 10, 1955, in Lafayette.
On March 23, 2019, he heard a soft whisper say, “Come now, Carl, and rest.”
Carl attended services at Greater Love Family Worship Center until his health failed.
He was a graduate of Crowley High School. After graduation, Carl enlisted in the United States Army. He worked at a rope plant for a few years and later was employed as a repairman in Kentucky.
Carl enjoyed visiting with family and friends and also hanging out at the fish pond.
Carl leaves to cherish his memories three children, Latrese (Christopher) Brown of Louisville, Kentucky, Carlisa (Niquie) Thompson of Louisville and Carl D. Sonnier of Louisville; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; the mother of his children, Lydia Simon; his mother, Theresa J. Sonnier of Crowley; his siblings, Diane J. Bess (Cicero) of Crowley, Beverley J. Sinegal of Jennings, Velma Sonnier of Arnaudville, Harlan Sonnier of Crowley, John Sonnier of Las Vegas, Nevada, Martin Sonnier of Houston, Texas, and Marvin Sonnier of Crowley; and a host of relatives and friends.
Carl was preceded in death by one son, Christopher Joseph Sonnier; one grandchild, Cionna Sonnier; his father, Oscar Sonnier Sr.; and two siblings, Joseph O. Sonnier Jr. and Paul Sonnier.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, at Greater Love Family Worship Center, 1001 N. Avenue E in Crowley.
The family has requested that viewing be held at the church immediately prior to the service, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Rose LeBlanc Millet
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2019, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for Rose LeBlanc Millet, 91, who passed away April 18, 2019, at the Heart Hospital in Lafayette.
Fr. Gary Schexnayder will be officiating for the services. The family is requesting visiting hours to be held Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Millet was born and a resident of Crowley. In 1945 she graduated as valedictorian at Port Neches High School. Mrs. Rose was a member of the St. Michael Altar Society, the Rosary Group and the Rice City Seniors where she was queen in 2014. She worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for 28 years.
She is survived by five children, Warren Thomas Millet Jr. and his wife Brenda of Crowley, Richard Wayne Millet of Crowley, Gayle Elizabeth Lormand and her husband Todd of Crowley, Donald Charles Millet and his wife Terri of Jennings and Lynne Frances Broussard and her husband Jimmy of Crowley; nine grandchildren, Blaine Lormand and his wife Regan, Carlie Lormand, Seth Humble, D.J. Millet, Ryan Millet, Christian Millet, Jordan Conner and her husband Joshua, Megan Jackson and her husband Adam and Chelsea Greene and her husband Jordan; four great-grandchildren, Amalie, Hudson and Eli Lormand and Patrick Greene, and one expected in May; and her special fur baby, Maddie.
Mrs. Rose is preceded in death by husband, Warren Thomas Millet Sr.; her father, Fernest Leblanc; her mother, Elise Smalley; and one great-grandson, Cole Anthony Conner.
Pallbearers will be Blaine Lormand, D.J. Millet, Ryan Millet, Christian Millet, Seth Humble, Josh Connor and Jordan Greene.
The family would like to thank her caregiver Kylie Benoit of Senior Helpers and the staffs at Acadia General and Heart Hospitals.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Crowley.
