John Odillion Istre Jr.

John Odillion Istre Jr. was born in New Orleans on March 9, 1961, to John Odillion Istre Sr. and Rena Mae Clement.
He was called to his Heavenly Father on January 17, 2019. John served our country honorably in the National Guard. John loved fishing, camping, and doing mechanic work. John truly loved spending time with his family and having a good time with everyone. John was a kind and loving person; he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
John is survived by his parents, John and Rena Mae Istre Sr. of Mermentau Cove; beloved wife, Shelia M. Istre of Morse; his three sons, Derrick Istre of Estherwood, Darron Istre (Mary) of Crowley and Dexter Istre of Crowley; his two daughters, Alexander Davis (Mickey) of Texas and Alexis Marie Istre of Crowley; his two step-sons, Joseph Myers of Texas and Blake Daigle of Morse; his step-daughters, Julia Myers (Derrick Conner) of Egan, Brandi Daigle of Gueydan and Leanne Cashi of Egan; his sister, Anna Duclion (JC) of Mermentau Cove; his nephew, Jason Duclion (Candice); his five godchildren, Joseph Clement (Cora Barrios), William Austin Barrios, Nichole Duhon (Bryan), Jason Duclion Jr. and Hector Barrios; his 15 grandchildren; his nanny, Mary LaPoint of Crowley; his four uncles, Walter, Edwin, Ernest and Wilbert Clement, all of Morse; his sister-in-law, Patricia Istre; and five nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in death by his brother, Wallace Istre; his grandson, Shane Daigle; his niece, Sonia Duclion; his uncle, Chester Clement; and his grandparents, Anita Clement and Donicen Clement and Bertha and John Odillion Istre.
A Mass of Christian burial for John Odillion Istre Jr., 57, of Morse will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Mermentau on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, at 11 a.m. with Father Clint Trahan officiating. Visitation will be held at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Jennings beginning on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019, from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume on Monday at 8 a.m. until the time of his Funeral Mass. John will be laid to rest in the St. John the Evangelist Cemetery.

Carolyn Petry

May 13, 1943 - January 13, 2019
A Memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, at First Presbyterian Church at 321 E. Fourth St. at 1 p.m. for Carolyn Dianne Hayes Petry, 76, who departed this life after her battle with cancer on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019, in her home, surrounded by loving family and friends.
Carolyn was a native of Eunice and a lifelong resident of Crowley. In her younger days, she was a graduate of Eunice High School, and she married the love of her life, Donald Petry. In her past years she enjoyed being a member of the Crowley Art Association. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and Entertainment Chairman with the Crowley Town Club, for which she was proud to serve on the Mardi Gras court in 1981.
She owned Carolyn’s Beauty Salon until she retired to do the one thing she loved the most: being a homemaker and taking care of her grandchildren. Her pride and joy was caring for her family.
She was a beautifully talented artist; she loved to play bingo, visit with her friends and family on Facebook, and Carolyn enjoyed listening to KBON oldies music.
She was proud to live in the town of Crowley. Her family was her life. She will be missed by many. Her love will live on forever.
Reverend Jimmy Broussard will be officiating for the memorial service, which her family and friends are asked to attend. The Church Memorial service at 1 p.m. will honor the life of Carolyn Petry.
Carolyn is survived by one daughter, Katherine Petry; three sons and two daughters-in-law: Donald Petry Jr. and wife Allison of Crowley; Brian Petry and wife Lisa of Youngsville; and Billy Petry of Crowley; seven grandchildren: Erika Petry, Megan Dianne Coco married to Lance Coco, Beau Brasseaux, Taylor Demette married to Tyler Demette, Skylar Petry, Cameron Petry and Emma Petry; five great-grandchildren: Blaize, Elizabeth and Hayes Coco, Layla Menard and Matthew Demette; one brother: Charles Hayes married to Audrey Hayes; two nephews, Corey Hayes and Casey Hayes.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald Ray Petry, Sr.; her grandson, Donald Ray (Trey) Petry, III; her parents, Russell and Charlene Hayes; and a brother, Roger Hayes.
Carolyn donated her body to science in the hopes to help others.

Multi-parish police chase ends in Rayne arrest

RAYNE - Following a multi-vehicle pursuit Thursday afternoon involving four law enforcement departments, an individual is now in custody after leading law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase through two parishes.
Responding to a report of reckless driving by an individual at approximately 3:35 p.m. Thursday afternoon, a Lafayette deputy spotted the suspect on Cameron Street in Lafayette where the suspect almost crashed into the deputy’s unit, according to a spokesman with the sheriff’s office.
Duson and Rayne police officers assisted deputies with the pursuit, ending at the suspect’s home at 500 North Bradford in Rayne.
According to reports, the suspect, Ronald Babineaux, exited his vehicle at which point, unchained a pit bull, commanding the dog to attack the officers.
The dog was shot as it approached an officer and the suspect was then apprehended.
Babineaux was taken to the Acadia Parish Jail; afterwhich, was transferred to Lafayette where charges are pending.
The incident is still under investigation.

Eli Cormier

RAYNE - Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 18, 2019 at 3 p.m. in Gossen Funeral Home Chapel in Rayne, for Eli Cormier, 81, who died Thursday, Jan. 17, at his residence in Rayne.

Interment will be in the Assumption of the BVM Cemetery in Mire.

Rev. Kevin Bordelon, Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church will be will conducting the funeral services.

Survivors include a step-grandchild, Nicole Alleman of Rayne, and two sisters, Mary Louise Cormier Wynn of Lafayette and Elbie Cormier Begnaud and spouse Voorhies of New Iberia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie Cormier and Octave Robin Cormier; two sisters, Edith Cormier Lantier and Aline Cormier Gaspard; and six brothers, Emile Cormier, Curedy Cormier, Auther Cormier, Camile Cormier, Hilton Cormier and Claude Cormier.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne on Friday, Jan. 18, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
