Timothy Lane Smith

CROWLEY - Timothy Lane Smith, 51, passed away in Fulton, Maryland, on Monday, Oct. 7, 2024.
Tim requested no memorial service.
Tim was born on Dec. 31, 1972, in Crowley, to Irvin “Choppy” Smith and Sylvia Duhon Smith. He graduated from Midland High School in 1991 and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from LSU in 1996.
Tim started his career working at Cimarron Software Services in Houston, testing software that is used to command NASA’s International Space Station via JSC’s Mission Control Center. He then worked for a small video streaming start-up company during the early days of Internet video streaming. Finally, he worked for nearly 20 years for the U.S. Census Bureau in Washington, D.C.
Tim enjoyed hiking, camping, traveling, video games, LSU sports, and discussing politics. He was a fun loving, kind, and generous person who loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Tim is survived by one brother Damon Smith and wife Trisha of League City, Texas; one sister Tanya Smith of Mermentau; one niece, Elizabeth Smith Sanchez and husband Cesar of Huntsville, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin “Choppy” and Sylvia Duhon Smith; paternal grandparents, Woodrow and Evelyn Smith of Mermentau Cove; maternal grandparents, Peterson and Adeline Duhon of Mermentau.
Tim will be buried in the Istre Cemetery in Mermentau Cove.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home of Jennings, 511 N. Cutting Ave., Jennings.
