Ophed C. “Shube” Abshire

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Aug. 22, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Ophed C. “Shube” Abshire, 97, who died Monday, Aug. 18, 2025, at 7:23 p.m. in Crowley.
Father Johnathan Janise, pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, officiated for the services.
Visitation was held Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. A rosary was recited Thursday at 6 p.m.
Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Abshire is survived by one daughter, Dianna Istre and husband Cliff of Crowley; one son, Wayne “Bubba” Abshire and wife Angie of Dayton, Texas; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Bell David of Lafayette and Pearly Guidry of Lyons Point; and one brother, Leroy Abshire of Milton.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Nola Mary Monceaux Abshire; his parents, Turbert and Aurela Landry Abshire; three sisters, Lillian David, Norma Jean Sonnier and Vivian Abshire; three brothers, Ellis, Clifton, and Austin Abshire.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Heart of Hospice for their compassionate care for Mr. Abshire during these last few months. A special thank you and appreciation to his many neighbors, including Mrs. Dot and his all his caregivers.
