Warriors make quick work of Johnson Bayou
Landen Istre and Lance Martin combined for 55 points to help lead the Northside Christian Warriors to a 92-51 District 6-C victory over the Johnson Bayou Rebels Friday at Seth Trahan Memorial Gym.
The Warriors, who are 13-12 overall and a perfect 6-0 in district play, have scored over 90 points in four of their six league games and are averaging just under 88 points per outing during that stretch.
On Friday, the Warriors ran away from the Rebels in the first quarter when they outscored the guests 34-8.
Istre erupted for 20 of his team-high 30 points in the opening frame on five 3-pointers, a free throw and two baskets inside the arc.
Martin and Jagger Thibodeaux each poured in 10 points in the second quarter and the lead ballooned to 62-25 heading into the half.
The Warriors took their foot off the gas in the third quarter, but they still managed to outscore the Rebels 17-11 to push the lead to 79-36.
The Rebels outscored the Warriors 15-13 in the final frame.
Martin followed Istre in the scoring column with 25 points and Thibodeaux added 23.
Carson Tweedel contributed four points, Caleb Hanks scored three, Owen Rue, Andy Wang and Garrett Kidder each had two and Jake Morgan finished with one.
Johnson Bayou junior Damian Lugo carried the load for the Rebels with a game-high 32 points.
NCS starters Keegan Foreman and Bailey Landry did not play in the game due to illness.
The Warriors, who have a one-game lead over Starks (5-1) in the league standings, can clinch no less than a share of the district title on Tuesday with a victory at South Cameron.
Starks will then travel to Crowley on Friday to take on the Warriors in the district finale.
