James Willis Youens

CROWLEY - James Willis Youens, husband, father and grandfather, passed away on April 17, 2025, at the age of 75.
Born on July 17, 1949, in Columbus, Texas, and a resident of Rayne, he was preceded in death by his parents, Mabel Ruth and Dr. Willis Youens.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Barbara Schexnayder Youens; his children Amanda Boudreaux (Marcus) of Grand Prairie, Texas, Kacey Youens (Sarah) of Thibodaux, Aaron Hebert and Monica Hoffpauir of Crowley; and his grandchildren, Alex, Andrew, Chase, Jacob, Brandt and Micheal. He is also survived by his siblings Willa Youens Jepson, Vance Youens (Jennie) and Robert Youens (Linda); sister-in-law, Gail Toups; and brother-in-law David Schexnayder (Libby).
James was a 1967 graduate of Weimar High School in Texas and a 1972 graduate of the University of Texas.
As a mechanical engineer, James led a successful career before retiring. He enjoyed rebuilding and restoring Corvettes.
James will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home, Inc., of Rayne, 504 N. Polk St., 337-334-3141.

Bettie Legros Sensat

ZACHARY -Bettie Legros Sensat, a resident of Crowley, went to her eternal home on Monday, April 21, 2025. She was 93 years old and was retired from American Legion Hospital, where she worked for over 50 years as a Nurses Aid, LPN and RN. She retired in her late 60s but continued to go in as she was needed.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 23, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Zachary, from 2 p.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 4 p.m. conducted by Father Lamar Partin. Rosary will be recited at 3:45 p.m.
Burial will be on Thursday, April 24, at 10 a.m. at Louisiana National Cemetery in Zachary.
Bettie is survived by her daughter, Philomena Slaughter and husband Mansel “Spec” Slaughter; grandchildren, Spencer Slaughter (Lacey), Sarah Hearld (Jesse) and Cody Slaughter (Katey); great-grandchildren, Ruston Hugh Slaughter, Marlee Michael Hearld, Oliver Spence Hearld, John Michael Slaughter, Randee-Lyn Slaughter, Tyler James Slaughter, Charlee Marie Slaughter, Sadie June Slaughter and Casen Joseph Slaughter; and sisters, Margarite Legros and Nola Legros Conner and husband Herman.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, James “El Hugh” Sensat; parents, Andy and Zula Dupuis Legros; brother, Andy Legros Jr.; and sister, Rena Mae Richard Thibodeaux.
Pallbearers will be Spencer Slaughter, Jesse Hearld, Lamar Pugh, Cody Slaughter, Mansel Slaughter and Raymond Richard.
Honorary pallbearers are Terry Guidry, Mike Bossley, David Bossley and Roger Ghesquiere.
Bettie was a graduate of LSU Eunice in Nursing. She received her RN at 54 years old. In the last decade of her career, she was head nurse in Obstetrics.
Special thanks to Carrie, Courtney, Mr. Jared and the Staff at Southwind Nursing Home and especially, Beth Simon, and Mona Bossley Zeringue, Father Jonathan Janise and her precious roommate Zelma Glodd.
Memorial donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Debt Reduction, 4727 McHugh Drive, Zachary, LA 70791; or to Lamm Hospice in Crowley.
