Allen J. “A.J.” Stutes

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Crowley for Allen J.”A. J.” Stutes, 87, who passed away on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019 at 7:13 p.m. at his home in Crowley surrounded by his family and love ones.
Fr. Brent Smith will be officiating for the services. Burial will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
The family has requested the visitation to be held on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley. A rosary will be recited on Sunday at 6 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will resume on Monday at 8 a.m. until time of services.
Survivors include his wife of fifty four years, Jeanette G. Stutes of Crowley; four daughters, Gerry and husband, Bennett Trahan of Kaplan, Elsie and husband, Darrell Thibodeaux of Mire, Sue Stafford of Crowley, and Sis Hebert of Morse; one sister, Shirleen Thibodeaux of Morse; one brother, Emery Stutes of Crowley; twenty one grandchildren, forty seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Mr. Stutes was preceded in death by the mother of his five children, Dora Hoffman Stutes; one daughter, Elizabeth Stutes Hebert; three sons, David and Darrell Stutes and Michael Sensat; his parents, Wallace and Elsie T. Stutes; two sisters, Lovenia “Chet” Stutes Duprie, and Hazel Stutes Foreman; one grandson, Brent Stutes; one great-granddaughter, Laila Stutes.
Mr. Stutes served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 6720. He was a member of the riffle squad for several years for the VFW Post 6720.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Lamm Family Care and Dr. Patrick Dale LeLeux and Taylor Valdetero, NP with Acadia Total Health.
Pallbearers for the services will be Wesley Hebert, Shawn Thibodeaux, Blayne Thibodeaux, Tayden Thibodeaux, Scotty Sensat and Bennett Trahan. Honorary Pallbearers for the service will be Robert and Darrell Thibodeaux.

Kernis Paul Saltzman

Memorial services were held Saturday, Feb. 16, at The Cowboy Church of Ellis County in Waxahachie, Texas, for Kernis Paul Saltzman, 73, who passed away Feb. 12, 2019.
Josh Whistler, youth minister of Cowboy Church of Ellis County, officiated the service.
Kernis’ body was willed to UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, Texas, with hopes that much can be learned about bone marrow failure diseases.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Charlene L. Saltzman of Waxahachie, Texas; three children, Scott A. Saltzman of Lake Charles, Jill Martinez (Todd) of Cambodia, and Ted A. Saltzman (Ellen) of Waxahachie, Texas; six grandchildren, a great source of pride and joy, Spencer (Navi) and Caroline Jackson, Ian and Helena Martinez, Damien and Kolton Saltzman; one sister, Velta (Pelton) Miller; three brothers, E.J. Saltzman, Wilson J. Saltzman and Thomas (Linda) Mire, all of Crowley; one brother-in-law, Glenn (Nina) Landry of Houston, Texas.
Kernis was preceded in death by his step-father Joseph Mire; mother Mildred Meaux Mire; biological father, Watson J. Saltzman; and brother, Western Saltzman.
Kernis loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He appreciated his doctor’s understanding that he wanted to honor and obey God through his journey with bone marrow diseases. He was very thankful to the Christian community for their many prayers offered on his behalf.

Anna Belle Duhon Bertrand

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Anna Belle Duhon Bertrand, 89, who died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019, in Crowley.
Deacon Tom Sommers officiated for the services.
The family requested visiting hours be held Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 am until the time of service.
A rosary was recited Friday evening at 6 p.m.
Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Bertrand is survived by one daughter, Vickie Broussard and husband A.J. “Fatty” of Crowley; one son, Dwayne Bertrand and wife Kim of Lafayette; one sister, Wilda Hanks of Lake Charles; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Alex Bertrand; one son, Alex W. Bertrand Sr.; her parents, Emile and Adelaide Benoit Duhon; two grandsons, Alex W. Bertrand Jr. and Thad Bertrand; one sister, Joyce Menard; and one brother, Ray Reece Duhon.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Encore Nursing and Rehab for the extraordinary care that was rendered to Mrs. Bertrand during her stay at their facility.
