Interstate shooting turned over to D.A.
At press time Tuesday, no charges had yet been filed in the shooting Saturday, Nov. 11, on Interstate 10 that put two men in the hospital.
Rayne Police Chief Carroll J. Stelly said detectives, after consulting with prosecutors of the 15th Judicial District Attorney’s office, turned the case over to them Monday, Nov. 20.
The district attorney will decide what, if any, charges will be filed.
According to police reports, Demoine Declouette and Terry Guidry were driving west on I-10 Saturday morning when they were shot multiple times.
Declouette, the driver, managed to drive to the Rayne Police Station for help. As officers and emergency personnel provided first aid, one of the victims reportedly identified Alvin Monroe Jr. as the shooter.
Monroe, 41, subsequently was picked up by police from his family’s Sixth Street residence in Crowley and questioned. No charges were filed and Monroe was released.
Stelly said the two individuals that sustained gunshot wounds are recovering.
