Train fatality investigated by Rayne Police
UPDATE:
Rayne Chief of Police Carroll J. Stelly has released details of a fatality involving a train and pedestrian in Rayne.
On Monday Nov. 27, at 1:14 p.m., a train accident was reported at the railroad crossing at Mervine Kahn Extension near the intersection of Seventh Street and American Legion Drive. Officers along with Acadian Ambulance responded and discovered a pedestrian who was unresponsive.
The preliminary investigation determined a white male, 59-year-old Harold J. Rodgers Jr., a resident at 315 Lyman Street in Rayne, was walking north on Mervine Kahn Extension and was struck a by a west bound Amtrak Train traveling from New Orleans to Beaumont.
The Acadia Parish Coroner’s office pronounced Rodgers dead at the scene of the accident and the incident is still under investigation.
Landry, Foreman exchange wedding vows
Molly Margaret Landry and Blake Edward Foreman, both of Roberts Cove, were united in holy matrimony on the evening of Saturday, Nov. 25, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Loreauville.
Deacon Christ Doumit officiated the 6:30 p.m. nuptials.
The bride is the daughter of Micheal J. and Lawrie W. Landry of Loreauville. Her maternal grandparents are Mrs. Herman Walet of Loreauville and the late Mr. Herman Walet, and her paternal grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. O’Neil Landry of New Iberia.
Molly is a graduate of Loreauville High School and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She is presently employed with Financial Partners of Louisiana in Lafayette.
The groom is the son of John Eric and Bonnie G. Foreman of Crowley. He is the grandson of Herbert J. Gossen Sr. and Elaine L. Gossen, both of Roberts Cove, and J.E. and Ann D. Foreman of Crowley.
Blake is a graduate of Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish and Louisiana Technical College - Acadian Campus. He is currently employed by Gossen Farms and is the owner of Edward’s Seafood Haus in Church Point.
Escorted to the altar by her father, the bride was gorgeous in a dreamy Mori Lee lace gown featuring an illusion sweetheart neckline and full length illusion sleeves with lovely lace appliqués. The gown was finished with a stunning illusion back with delicate crystal beading and a long row of covered buttons.
The bride paired her gown with a cathedral length veil trimmed with floral lace.
She carried an elegant bouquet of blush spray roses, white roses, dusty miller, lysmachia, ranunculus and seeded eucalyptus. Entwined in the bouquet was a rosary belonging to her late maternal grandfather.
In keeping with tradition, the bride’s late maternal grandfather’s rosary served as “something old,” while her wedding dress was “something new.” Her veil was “something borrowed” and her garter was “something blue.”
Calli L. Smith and Avery Landry, sisters of the bride, served as matron and maid of honor, respectively.
Bridesmaids were Morgan Boggs and Grace Boggs, cousins of the bride, and Paige B. Gossen, Kristi Carriere and Nikki Grayson, friends of the bride.
The bridal attendants were clad in charcoal-colored dresses in designs of their own choosing and carried bouquets of the same flowers carried by the bride.
The duties of best man were shared by John Paul Foreman, brother of the groom, and Bryant M. Gossen, cousin of the groom.
Standing as groomsmen were Tyler Foreman, Andrew Gossen and Nicholas Gossen, cousins of the groom, and Andrew Wynn and Matthew Daniel, friends of the groom.
Jacob Smith and Damian Hubbard, cousins of the groom, and Ryan Smith, brother-in-law of the bride, served as ushers.
Serving as flower girl was Lorraine Fontenot, cousin of the groom. Ring bearers were Hale Comeaux, cousin of the groom, and Reed T. Comeaux, cousin and Godchild of the groom.
For her daughter’s wedding day, the mother of the bride, the former Lawrie Walet, selected a taupe sheath gown featuring ruching at the left hip and three quarter length sleeves with a scattering of bronze sequins. She completed her outfit with a pair of Pelle Moda latte suede kitten heels and acccessorized with taupe pearls.
The mother of the groom, the former Bonnie Gossen, chose a full length gown in an eggplant color featuring left-side ruching, chiffon layers at the hem, an embellished round neckline and embellished three quarter length sleeves.
Music for the ceremony was provided by Jeanne Stile.
Selected scriptures were read by Abbi Walet, cousin of the bride, and Keith Foreman, Godfather of the groom.
Following the wedding, the newlywed couple was joined by family and friends for a reception at Maison de Tours in St. Martinville.
The bride’s three-tiered cake was decorated with fresh flowers and made and filled with various of the bride’s and groom’s favorite flavors. Lanny Begnaud, godmother of the bride, assisted with serving.
The groom’s red velvet cake was made in the shape of a crawfish pot with corn and potatoes with “Edward’s Seafood Haus” on the side of the pot. It was served by his godmother, Diane Comeaux.
Out-of-town guests at the wedding traveled from California, Illinois, Minnesota, Texas and various points throughout Louisiana.
On the evening of Friday, Nov. 17, the groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Loreau Place in Loreauville. Guests enjoyed chicken and sausage gumbo with all the trimmings and a variety of desserts.
Following a wedding trip to Jamaica, the couple will reside in Roberts Cove.
Aloisio, Frey joined in holy matrimony
The beautiful St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Crowley was the setting for the Saturday, Oct. 14, nuptials uniting Andrea Michelle Aloisio of Lafayette and Jason Lawrence Frey of Iota.
Fr. Mikel Polson of St. Michael and Pastor Johann Sathre of Our Savior’s Church Midtown Lafayette officiated the 6:30 p.m. double ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of David Aloisio and Sara Rizzo Aloisio, both of Lafayette. She is the granddaughter of Rosario and Frances Aloisio of Lafayette and Tony and Herminia Rizzo of Chicago, Illinois.
Andrea is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and is presently employed in the marketing and public relations field.
The groom is the son of Francis and Germaine Manuel Frey of Iota. His paternal grandparents are Sylvester Frey of Iota and the late Helen Reiners Frey, and his maternal grandparents are the late Clem and Bessie Courville Manuel Sr. of Eunice.
Jason graduated from Iota High School before attending Louisiana State University-Eunice and McNeese State University, where he earned a Master of Business Administration degree. He is currently employed as the program manager at Medical Resources and Guidance.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride entered the church to the strains of “Trumpet Voluntary.” She was beautiful in an off-the-shoulder ivory satin wedding gown featuring an A-line silhouette and a crystal belt.
For her headpiece, the bride selected a fingertip length veil trimmed with beadwork, and she carried a round bouquet of lilac and fuschia peonies hand-tied with ivory ribbon.
A memento from the bride’s paternal grandmother served as “something old” and the bride’s wedding gown was “something new.” A memento from the bride’s late maternal grandmother was “something borrowed,” while a pair of earrings that were a gift from the groom was “something blue.”
Valerie Aloisio, sister of the bride, served as maid of honor. Lacey Frey, sister-in-law of the groom; Fallon Mason, lifelong friend of the bride; and Melanie Broussard, cousin of the groom, served as bridesmaids.
The bridesmaids wore formal dresses of their choice in shades ranging from lavender to deep purple, and each carried a long-stemmed lavender rose paired with baby’s breath and tied with silver ribbon.
Blaise Frey, brother of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Derek Frey and Brandon Frey, brothers of the groom; Joey Aloisio, brother of the bride; and Mike Miller, friend of the groom. All of the groomsmen also served as ushers.
For her daughter’s wedding, the mother of the bride, the former Sara Rizzo, wore a formal length lavender chiffon dress finished with a sequined lace bolero jacket.
The mother of the groom, the former Germaine Manuel, selected a formal length teal chiffon dress featuring a silver beaded bodice and empire waist.
Music for the ceremony was provided by keyboardist Angella Callahan and trumpeters Joe and Joshua Stemplewski.
Selected scriptures were read by Gerard Frey, Godfather of the groom.
Following the wedding, a reception was held at Point-aux-Loups Springs Ballroom in Iota. The guest tables were topped with photographs of the bride and groom, rose petals in various shades of purple and purple and silver chocolate kisses. A special memory table held photographs of the couple’s late grandparents.
The bride’s cake was a three-tiered amaretto confection decorated with fresh lavender and ivory roses, baby’s breath and small deep purple flowers. It was served by Anne Ritter and Linda Manuel, aunts of the groom.
The groom’s German chocolate cake was baked by the groom’s mother and aunt and was decorated in a duck hunting theme. It was served by Dana Frey, aunt of the groom, and Melissa Fuselier, Godmother and cousin of the groom.
Guests at the wedding travelled from across the United States and various points throughout Louisiana.
On the evening prior to the wedding, the groom’s family hosted a rehearsal dinner in Iota. Guests enjoyed gumbo with all the sides and assorted desserts.
Following a wedding trip to the Caribbean, the newlywed couple is residing in Lafayette.
Adeline Primeaux Trahan
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 27, 2017 at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Estherwood for Adeline Primeaux Trahan, 74, who went to her final resting place after a brief illness on November 23, 2017 surrounded by her loving family in Estherwood.
Fr. Clint Trahan, pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Morse will be officiating for the services. The family is requesting visiting hours to be held Sunday from 11 am to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Crowley. A rosary will be recited Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be in Estherwood Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Trahan was a graduate of St. Michael High School in Crowley. On November 3, 1962 she married the love of her life, Oscar Trahan where they made Estherwood their home; and was blessed with three children. She worked a variety of jobs throughout her life, but the most important job was being a loving wife, dedicated mother, and “Me-Maw.” Adeline was blessed a second time in her life with the love of Elbee “Papa Bee” LeJeune.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna Bertrand of Estherwood, and Sharon Mott and her husband Tiger of Crowley; one sister, Ann Primeaux of Duson; second life companion, Elbee LeJeune of Estherwood; daughter-in-law, Amanda Trahan of Gueydan; extended family, Linda Clement and her husband Patrick of Crowley, and Patrice Dale of Johnson Bayou; her pride and joy grandchildren, five granddaughters, Dinah Istre and husband Clayton of Mermentau, Brittany Theriot and wife, Tesha of Crowley; Katherine Hebert of Crowley, Holly Cart of Iota, and Chelsea Lacomb and husband Zeb of Estherwood; five grandsons, Blaine Hebert and his wife Kirstin of Youngsville, Marcus Hebert of Estherwood, Kerry Kidder of Lafayette, Trevor Trahan and his wife Tori of Gueydan, and Bubba Dale and his wife, Ashley of Breaux Bridge; and nineteen great-grandchildren that adored her.
Preceding in her death to prepare for her homecoming is her husband, Oscar Trahan; her son, Troy Trahan; her parents, Clara and Oscar Primeaux; and her in-laws, Delphine and Olucien Trahan.
Our family was blessed with angels which made it possible for mom to be cared in a loving home surrounded by her family. A heartfelt thank you to Chelsea Lacombe, Katherine Hebert, Brittany Theriot, Dinah Istre, Amanda Trahan, Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care. Last but not least Mrs. Joyce Fontenot of Mermentau, a truly dedicated and heartfelt caregiver which gave more she could ever receive and became a part of our family forever. Me’Maw, the matriarch, will be greatly missed by her family and everyone that had the pleasure of knowing her.
