Joseph Dassas Martin

MIRE - Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at a 2:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Mire, for Joseph Dassas Martin, 95, who died Tuesday, February 11, at his residence in Mire.

Interment will be in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery in Mire.

Rev. Michael Arnaud, Pastor of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Mire, will be the celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Readers for the Mass will be his godchildren, Davie Meche Jr. and Donna Franz. Gift bearers will include Kassandra Edwards and Nick Edwards.

Survivors include four children, Merida Martin Duhon of Erath, Christine Martin Baham and spouse Lee Baham of Mire, Pamela Martin Boudreaux and spouse Ken Boudreaux of Morgan City and Joseph "Bud" Martin of Mire; 11 grandchildren, Cynthia "Faye" Nicolas, Kathy Abshire, Lynn Duhon, Crystal Guillory, Damion Edwards, Kassandra Edwards, Nicolas Edwards, Ethan "Buddie" Baham, Kenny Boudreaux, Seth Boudreaux and Constance Broderick; a sister, Thelma Martin of Mire; numerous great-grandchildren, numerous great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, numerous great great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Evella Meche Martin; parents, Desire Martin and Azelina Bouillion Martin; three brothers, Elson "Pee Wee" Martin, John Curtis Martin and Wilton Martin; and two sisters, Esther Martin Malley and Thesesa Martin Dorr.

Mr. Martin served his country in the United States Army serving in WWII as a technician 4th grade. He retired with The Superior Oil Company with 34 years. He was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and Usher, and was past president of the Mire Volunteer Fire Department. He was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Counsel 7411 in Mire and 4th Degree Bishop Maurice Schexnayder Assembly 1882 in Lafayette.

Pallbearers will be Damion Edwards, Nick "T-Das" Edwards, Ethan Baham, Kenny Boudreaux, Seth Boudreaux and Gerald Case. Honorary pallbearers will be Lynn Duhon, James Guillory and Kent Sonnier.

A Rosary will be prayed Wednesday, February 12, at 7:00 pm in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne.

The family requests visitation be observed in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, on Wednesday, February 12, from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm and on Thursday, February 13, from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm.

E.L. “Lonnie” Hearn

A memorial service for E.L. “Lonnie” Hearn will be held at First Baptist Church in Crowley at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16.
Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the church.
Rev. Cullen Clark, pastor of First Baptist Church, will officiate for the service.
Lonnie was born March 27, 1940, and died Dec. 28, 2019.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathryn Hayes Hearn; one daughter, Ruth Ann Hearn; three grandchildren, Skylar Hearn, Nikki and Bethany Burleigh; great-grandchildren Annaleigh Hearn, Berkley K. “Trae” and Eldredge L. “Eli” Desselle; and two brothers, Larry Hearn and Clarence and wife Laurie Hearn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, E.H. Hearn and Judy Peot Hearn.
Lonnie proudly served in the United States Air Force. He was a rice farmer and an Acadia Parish School Board bus driver.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Nash, Jimmy Meche, Ron Lawson, Robert Kahn, Kenneth Richard and Curt Beuscher.

Irene Guidry Simon

Family and friends are mourning the death of Irene Guidry Simon, who died at the age of 97.
Irene was born in Kaplan to the late Ozone and Louise Hebert Guidry on Dec. 31, 1922. She was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Lyons Point.
She was a homemaker, farmer’s wife and a hard-working mother of three. Her favorite pastimes were reading, sewing, and gardening.
She taught herself to play the organ and together with her husband, O’Neil Simon, they played and sang for many Masses and funerals in the area for more than 52 years. She also served on St. John the Baptist Ladies Altar Society.
Irene will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Irene is survived by her two daughters, Kathy Simon (Will) Guidry and Gloria Simon (Melvin John) Petry of New Iberia; and her one son, Joey Neil Simon of Lyons Point. She has two sisters, Dorothy Sztroin and Effie Broussard of Gueydan; two sisters-in-law, Ida Guidry, and Martha Guidry both of Crowley; eight grandchildren, Brett Petry, Scott Petry, Michelle Davidson, Simone Irwin, Emily Miller, Neal Simon, April Pastor and Justin Simon; and seven great-grandchildren, Hannah Davidson, Ethan Petry, Cooper Petry, Anna Petry, Jackson Pastor, Kristin Petry and Kevin Petry.
She is preceded in death by her husband, O’Neil J. Simon; and two brothers, Chester and Murphy Guidry.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2020, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Lyons Point.
Visitation began Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. A rosary was recited at 6 p.m. Monday.
Burial was in St. John the Baptist Mausoleum.
The family would like to thank Ms. Terrly Leleux, her devoted roommate, the staff Southwind Nursing Home, and Grace Hospice.

Steven Wayne Kibodeaux

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for Steven Wayne Kibodeaux, 64, who passed away Monday, Feb. 10, 2020, at Acadia General Hospital.
Fr. Mikel Polson, pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, will be officiating.
The family is requesting visiting hours to be held Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Crowley. A vigil service will be led by Deacon Dan Didier at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Steven is survived by his wife of 41 years, Gwen Kibodeaux of Crowley; and his beloved furry companion, Lilli.
He is preceded in death by his father, George Kibodeaux Jr.; his mother and stepfather, Betty and Russell McDathe.
Pallbearers will be Chris Gardiner, Jeff Dore, Nicholas Benton, Conrad Bercier, Scott Istre, Roland Leleux, Bryant Gielen and Dan Didier.
The family would like to thank Dr. Satinder Saini the staff of Acadia General Hospital, and Emily Levy and the Cancer Center of Acadiana at Acadia General Hospital.
