Clifton Joseph Hebert

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Feb. 10, at 3 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Evangeline for Clifton Joseph Hebert, 94, who died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Fr. Paul LaFleur, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Evangeline will be officiating for the services. The family requested visiting hours be held Monday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A rosary was recited at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial was in St. Joseph Mausoleum in Iota.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Gale Hebert Simar and her husband Wayne of Lafayette; two grandsons, Todd Simar and his wife Maggie of Lafayette, and Ryan Simar and his wife Angelique of Houma; and three great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Jade, and Kade Simar; two sisters, Mable Hebert of Crowley and Marjorie Broussard of Scott.
Mr. Hebert is preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Rosa Latiolais Hebert; his son Timothy Joseph Hebert, his parents, Benjamin and Ematilde Cormier Hebert; two brothers, Arthur Hebert and Clisma Hebert.

Mary Pray

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15 in First Baptist Church for Mary Riles Pray who passed away on Feb. 6, 2020 at the age of 85.
Mary Pray was a resident of Lafayette for 67 years. She taught high school at Acadiana and Comeaux for 40 years. Mary was an active member of First Baptist Church since 1953. She was a member of the Laf. Parish Retired Teachers Assoc., Chez Amis Sorority, PEO, Hospice Volunteer for seven years, Women on Mission Group, and her favorite was her Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her children, Valeri Pray Ronstadt, Deblyn Pray Ceeley and Steve Derrik Pray, and eight grandchildren whom she dearly loved, Vittoria Ronstadt, Elias Ronstadt, Mitchell Ronstadt, Tanner Pray, Kalen Pray, Andrea Ceeley, Beau Pray and Ava Pray.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James Dwayne Pray and her son, Jeffory Dwayne Pray.
Visiting hours will be at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Friday, Feb. 14, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting hours will continue at First Baptist Church - Downtown on Saturday, Feb. 15, from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Please come and tell us funny stories and laugh with us as we celebrate her life.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Burial will take place in Fountain Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Shooting on North Avenue I in Crowley injures one

A Crowley man found with multiple gunshot wounds at an Interstate 10 off-ramp Tuesday night said he was shot eight miles away in Crowley.
Crowley police, along with deputies from the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office were called to Exit 72 Tuesday evening where a man was found in a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds, according to Police Chief Jimmy Broussard.
Crowley police, along with deputies with the Acadia Parish Sheriff Department responded to a call at Exit 72 in Acadia Parish to find a male subject with multiple gunshot wounds in a vehicle.
The victim and a female subject with him told investigators that the shooting happened in the 1700 block of North Avenue I in Crowley.
Broussard said police officers went to the Avenue I scene and were able to locate multiple shell casings. The area was secured and processed by investigators, Broussard said.
“Our officers are interviewing people and investigating all leads,” Broussard said.
The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was reported in stable condition.

Stephen Mark “Mutt” Venable

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, in the Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Stephen Mark “Mutt” Venable, 64, who passed away surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Pastor Josh Belt of Our Savior’s Church will be officiating for the services.
The family is requesting visiting hours to be held Sunday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. to the time of service at 1 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday.
A private inurnment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at a later date.
He is survived by his two daughters, Stephanie Venable Webb and husband Jimbo of Crowley, and Stacey Venable Hinze and husband William of Youngsville; three brothers, Michael Venable and wife Dena of Baton Rouge, Johnny Venable and wife Mona of Crowley, and William “Bill” Venable and wife Brenda of Corpus Christi, Texas; and most importantly, the light of his life his four grandchildren, Nicole Sonnier, Peyton Hinze, Liam Hinze and Anne-Marie Hinze.
Stephen is preceded in death by his parents, Emery and Elida Venable; and one brother, James “Paps” Venable.
Pallbearers will be Jimbo Webb, William Hinze, Brady Venable, Bryant Venable, Gannon Quebodeaux and Liam Hinze.
The family would like to thank the St. Joseph Carpenter House and all the hospice care that he received during his illness.

Merrilee Hoyt Batty

Private services were held for Merrilee Hoyt Batty, 91, who passed away Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, at Cornerstone Nursing Facility in Lafayette.
Rev. Jimmy Broussard officiated for the services.
Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Merrilee spent her career as a librarian in Kansas elementary and middle schools. She was a lifelong fan of Kansas University basketball.
She is survived by two nieces, Alice L. Rhode of Mandeville and Patrice LeBlanc of Austin, Texas; one nephew, Lorin LeBlanc of Lafayette, and their families who all enjoyed spending summer vacations with her at her fishing cottage in Canada.
Mrs. Batty is preceded in death by her parents, Lorin and Eva Persinger Hoyt; her sister, Jeannette Hoyt LeBlanc; and one nephew, Leo LeBlanc Jr.
