Miss Rayne orientation held, pageant Aug. 11

RAYNE - Orientation for the upcoming Miss Rayne Pageant was held Monday, July 16, at City Hall for young ladies interested in competing for the 2018 Miss Rayne Pageant.
Miss Rayne Director Suzette Leonards welcomed the first three contestants, Breanna Rice, Asialyn Jolivette and Mary Simon.
The Miss Rayne orientation was an informal opportunity to get information about the Miss Rayne Pageant and ask questions with the reigning Miss Rayne Corinne Doucet.
Attendance was not mandatory to compete in pageant, with any interested young lady between 16 and 22 years of age invited to participate.
The 2018 Miss Rayne Pageant is slated for Saturday, Aug. 11, at 6 p.m. the Rayne Civic Center.
To be eligible to compete for the title of Miss Rayne, contests must (1) be 16 years of age and not older than 22 years of age the date of the pageant; (2) be single and have never been married or had a marriage annulled; (3) not be pregnant or have never borne a child; (4) be of good moral character and never been convicted of any felony; (5) have a Rayne address or telephone number or attend a school servicing the Rayne community.
The competition will consist of the following segments; interview – (held the afternoon of the competition); typically there will be a panel of three judges that will visit with each contestant for a period of approximately five minutes; questions may be asked concerning information covered on the entry form and general items of interest about the City of Rayne; sportswear and introductions; Choreographed dance number and a maximum 30 second introduction; evening gown – on stage competition in an evening gown of choice; on-stage interview including two lighthearted questions.

Joshua Paul Thevis

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 12:45 p.m. in the Chapel of Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for Joshua Paul Thevis, 27, who died Sunday, July 22, 2018, in Buna, Texas.
Rev. Chuck Norwood, Pastor of Bible Missionary Church, Jennings, will officiate the 12:45 p.m. service with Fr. Brent Smith, Parochial Vicar of St. Michael the Archangel, officiating the Mass of Christian Burial.
The family requests visiting hours Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery in Mowata.
Joshua enjoyed the outdoors-hunting, fishing, cooking, and was an avid golfer. He worked for Zachry Construction as a crane operator. Joshua loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, grandson and friend to all who knew him. All who knew and loved Joshua were truly blessed by his presence.
Joshua is survived by his loving wife, Keren Atkinson Thevis of Buna; his beautiful children, Haleigh Jade Thevis and Wesley James Thevis, both of Buna; his mother, Linda Guillory of Crowley; his father, Blaise Thevis of Iota; one sister, Alexis Guillory (Christopher) and their children Abel and Vivian of Crowley; and maternal grandparents, Robert and Loretta Guillory of Crowley.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James and Norma Blanchard Thevis, and his step-father, Dustin Hornsby.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Thevis, Ben Thevis, Donald Hebert, Johnathan Tawney, Heston Krumnow and Christopher Klumpp. Honorary pallbearer will be Carlos Jaramillo.

Luma John “Johnny” Quebodeaux

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 24 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Luma John “Johnny” Quebodeaux, 78, who died Sunday, July 22, 2018 at his home in Crowley surrounded by his loving family.
Fr. Jason Vidrine will officiate for the services. The family is requesting visiting hours be held Monday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Monday. Interment will be at Sensat Cemetery in Egan.
Mr. Quebodeaux is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Jane Lantier Quebodeaux; two daughters, Tammy Trahan and her husband Mitchell of Rayne and Angela Landry and her husband Jarred of Duson; five sons, Michael John Quebodeaux and his significant other Becky Hoffman of Crowley, Ronald James Quebodeaux of Crowley, James “Jimmy” Quebodeaux and his wife Patricia of Midland, Kevin Quebodeaux and his wife Raquel of Carencro, and Brian Quebodeaux and his wife Annie of Crowley; two brothers, Murphy Quebodeaux and his wife Yvonne of Anniston, Alabama and Luby Quebodeaux of Crowley; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Luma John and Clothilde Broussard Quebodeaux; and one sister, Grace Toups.
Active pallbearers will be Michael John Quebodeaux, Ronald James Quebodeaux, James “Jimmy” Quebodeaux, Kevin Quebodeaux, Brian Quebodeaux, and Corey Quebodeaux. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jamie Quebodeaux Ursin Daigle, Blaine Monceaux, Logan Quebodeaux, and Jarred Landry.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Lamm Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion rendered to Mr. Johnny.
