Student with handgun arrested at Armstrong Middle

RAYNE - Rayne Police Chief Carroll J. Stelly announced Rayne Police Officers arrested a 13-year-old male at Armstrong Middle School Tuesday morning after an officer learned from an anonymous source that the student had a handgun on campus.
The juvenile was taken into custody for violating the following offenses: carrying a concealed weapon, illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile, possessing a firearm in a firearm free zone and possession of a stolen firearm.
As of press time, the student was being held at the Lafayette Detention Center until a scheduled hearing Wednesday morning.
Louisiana law prevents police from releasing the identity of a juvenile.

Gloria L. Dupre

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, May 19, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Egan for Gloria L. Dupre, 78, who passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at 11:42 a.m. at the Encore Nursing Home in Crowley.
Fr. Jude Thierry, pastor of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Egan, will be officiating for the services.
Burial will be held in Sensat Cemetery in Egan.
The family requested the visitation to be held on Friday, May 18, at 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley. A Rosary was recited at 6 o’clock in the evening in the funeral home chapel. Visitation resumed on Saturday at 8 a.m. until time of services.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Dupre of Egan, Lisa Dupre and husband Ricky Monceaux of Crowley; three sons, Greg Dupre of Crowley, Kevin Dupre of Merryville and Mark Dupre of Egan; one brother, Larry Paul and wife Marie LaComb of Jennings; seven grandchildren, Kelli Dupre and husband Lowell Wyatt of Katy, Texas, Ashley Dupre, Michael Dupre, Brittany Broussard and companion Tiffany, and Britton Dupre all of Crowley; Keisha Broussard and husband Randy Bertrand of Maxie, and Hayley Spell and husband Chad Perez of Gueydan; 11 great-grandchildren, Cameron Baronet, Cayli Baronet, Caydance Baronet, Allison Bertrand, Randall Bertrand, Lexi Bertrand, Ethan Wyatt, Emma Wyatt, Eli Perez and Finley Perez, Kaden Banks.
Ms. Dupre was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Dupre; her parents, Henry and Lovina Romero LaComb; one sister, Loretta Jane LaComb LeJeune; and one great-granddaughter, Kirstein Gabrielle Baronet.

Katie Jo Caswell

It’s with the heaviest of hearts that the family of Katie Jo Caswell announces her passing from this life into the arms of angels on May 16, 2018, at the age of 35.
Katie was born in Lake Charles to Gerald Caswell and Hilda Miller Caswell on Sept. 26, 1982. She worked as a waitress and dedicated her life to the care of her family.
Katie enjoyed singing, shopping, and doing arts and crafts. Katie loved spending time with her daughters, her nieces, and her nephews, as well as hosting parties and visiting with everyone, she was a people person.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Katie is survived by her parents, Gerald and Hilda M. Caswell of Jennings; her two daughters, Nevaeh Crochet of Jennings and Ava Landry, both of Jennings; her two brothers, Buck Caswell of Jennings and Elead “EJ” Caswell of Iota; and her sister, Tammy Brantley of Jennings.
Katie was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Elead and Maize Caswell; her maternal grandparents, Joseph and Clerda Miller; and her niece, Chelsea Kershaw.
Funeral services for Katie Jo Caswell, 35, of Jennings, were held at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Saturday, May 19, at 11 a.m. with Deacon Mike Tramel officiating.
A gathering of family and friends began on Friday, May 18, at 11 a.m. and continued until 9 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 6 p.m. Visitation resumed on Saturday, May 19, at 8 a.m. and continued until the time of her service.
Burial will follow in Sensat Cemetery in Egan.
Carrying Katie to her final resting place in Sensat Cemetery will be Tony Kershaw, Aaron Doga, Chris Melton, and JP Landry.
