Lawrence “Chico” Mitchell

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Lawrence “Chico” Mitchell, 83, who passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, at 7:36 a.m. at the Camelot Place in Rayne.
Rev. Wilson will be officiating for the services. Burial will be held at a later date.
The family has requested the visitation to be held on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 10 a.m. until time of services, all in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley.
Survivors include one daughter, Michelle Bias Citizen husband Jerome of Church Point; one son, Sherron Bias and wife Latania of Church Point; five grandchildren, Charity, Jyron, Davin, Madisyn and Tony Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Eunice Mitchell; two sisters, Willie Mae Allen, Aline Mitchell Garrett; five brothers, Albert Mitchell, Antoine Mitchell, Walter Mitchell, Johnnie Lee Mitchell Sr. and Allen J. Mitchell.

Luna LeJeune LaCasse

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota for Mrs. Harry LaCasse, the former Luna LeJeune (Maw Maw Casse), who passed away on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, at 2:20 p.m. surrounded by her family in Shortbread, Iota.
Fr. Jude Thierry, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, will officiate for the services.
The family requests visiting hours Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. A rosary was recited Wednesday at 6 p.m. by the family.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Luna was a St. Francis graduate, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, and Ladies Altar Society. She was a Eucharistic Minister to the homebound and made lap quilts for the elderly, Our Lady of Fatima Rosary group, and St. Martha’s Guild. She also hand sewed quilts for her children and grandchildren.
In her spare time Luna enjoyed gardening and cutting her grass. Every Wednesday, for the past 41 years, her family gathered at her home for chocolate on bread.
She and her husband, Harry, were long time supporters of St. Francis School in Iota. They were presented with a plaque for 45 years of continued service to St. Francis. Her five children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren all attended school there.
Luna is survived by her five children, Susan (Allen) Christ of Richie, Kath (Ronnie) Doyle of Plaquemine, Nell Bruchez, Phil (Patty) LaCasse, and Chris (Pat) LeJeune all of Iota; grandchildren Todd Simar, Lori (Marion) Sattler, Daniel (Ashley) Doyle, Mark Doyle, Jules Jr. (Nicole) Bruchez, Amanda (Asa) Stewart, Brooke (Eric) Hebert, Summer (Keith) Smith, Jay (Jennifer) LaCasse, Shana (Todd) Fickes, and Lance (Heather) LeJeune; great grandchildren Paige (Phillip) Myers, Linzy, Seth, and Abbie Simar, Chelsea and Trevor Sattler, Annalyse, Carson, and Caroline Doyle, Thor, Maximus, Olive, Jacque, Evangelene, and Rue Anthony Stewart, Ryker and Maddox Bruchez, Zack, Emily, Nick, Bella, and Eden Hebert, Madison and Zoe Smith, Hanz and Parker LaCasse, Dakell Thibodeaux, Maya, Taryn, Cohen, and Brenton Fickes, and baby boy LeJeune on the way; great-great grandchildren Nathan, Addiyson, Lilyan, and Madelyn Myers; one brother, Charlie LeJeune; brother–in-law Ben Potier; sisters-in-law Joyce LaCasse and Lucy LaCasse.
Mrs. LaCasse was preceeded in death by her parents, Seyman and Maria (Andrepont) LeJeune, husband Harry LaCasse, sons-in-law, Richard Dale Simar and Jules Bruchez, Sr. and grandson, Patrick Stephen Doyle; sister, Ann LeJeune LaCombe; brothers Wilbert and Gilton LeJeune and baby sister Carrie Leigh LeJeune. And a special sister-in-law whom she and Harry helped raise, Delores Jean “TaTee” LaCasse Potier.
Pallbearers will be Todd Simar, Jules Bruchez Jr., Daniel Doyle, Mark Doyle, Jay LaCasse, and Lance LeJeune.
The family would like to thank her caregivers Lanell Regan, Romona Thibodeaux, and Julie LeJeune; Doctors Robert Aertker and Kevin Courville; Grace Home Health, and Compassus Hospice Care.

Dora Trahan Rue

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Dora Trahan Rue, 95, who died Feb. 12, 2018, in New Iberia.
Rev. David Broussard, pastor of Bayou Jacque Church of Christ, officiated for the services.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to the time of service. Interment was in Maxie Cemetery.
She is survived by four children, Byron Rue and wife Sherry of Crowley, Stephen Rue and wife Priscilla of Crowley, Johnny Rue and wife Joann of Crowley, and Virginia Rue Dunnahoe and husband Duane of New Iberia; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Rue is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Rue; one daughter, Martha Nell Rue Pendley; and two step-brothers, Claude Domingue, and Louis Schenkel.

Frances Gobar

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Feb. 17, at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Crowley for Frances Gobar, 99, who answered the Master’s call Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas.
Fr. Godwin Imoru, pastor of St. Theresa Catholic Church, will officiate for the services. The family requests visiting hours Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home and Saturday from 8:15 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. A rosary will be recited Saturday at 9 a.m.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
She was born on Dec. 4, 1918, in Crowley, to Robert and Edolie Harry Gobar. She recently relocated to live in Texas.
She worked 60-plus years as a domestic engineer for the family of Thomas and Mildred Potts and family. She was a member of KPC Ladies Auxiliary Court #51, St. Joseph’s Altar Society, Legion of Mary Rosary Group, and served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector.
Frances loved her family and traveling to Texas for the many eventful family gatherings were her most cherished memories.
She is survived by her sisters, Helen Burditt of Houston, Texas, Mary Lee McZeal of Port Arthur, Texas; nieces, Norma Jane, Nellie, Cynthia, Veronica and Martha; nephews, William, David Craig, Michael, Thomas, Perry and William Craig; numerous great nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends from Louisiana and Texas.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Edolie Harry Gobar; two sisters, Beatrice and Jeannette; and four brothers, Anthony, Joseph, John and William Gobar.

Jesse Idel Morgan Lyons Burr

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Crowley for Jessie Idel Morgan Lyons Burr, who died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, in Crowley.
Fr. Mikel Polson will officiate for the services. The family is requesting visiting hours be held Friday from 9 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 11:30 a.m.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Mausoleum at a later date.
Mrs. Jessie was born in Indian Bayou on Jan. 29, 1925, to Eva and Lemuel Morgan. She attended school in Crowley which also included nursing school. She also completed nursing training in Lafayette. She was a nurse for 30 years in Crowley for Doctors Albert and Mims Morgan and also spent 10 years as a nurse in Tyler, Texas.
She returned to Crowley to be close to her two sons after being away for some 50 years.
She is survived by her two loving sons, Roy and Ken Lyons, both of Crowley; two step-daughters, Sherry Miller of Keller, Texas, and Kay McClanahan and husband Botsie of McKinney, Texas; two sisters, Erline Morgan Chavers of Baton Rouge, and Iva Morgan Shaw of New York City, New York; one brother, Victor “Jack” Morgan and wife “Dot” Boudreaux Morgan of Crowley; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Saunier “Cotton” Lyons, who is the father of her children, and Franklin Hall Burr; her parents, Eva and Lemuel Morgan; four sisters, Opal Perrilloux, Ola Clonz, Viola Robinson, and Bessie Ancelet Vickers; and one grandson, Jason Lyons.

Shower fêtes Megan Broussard, Adam Jackson

Friends and family recently joined betrothed couple Megan Claire Broussard of Crowley and Adam Charles Jackson of Hathaway for a festive couple’s shower held in their honor.
The January 13 evening shower, held at G&H Kitchen in Crowley, was hosted by Jordan and Josh Conner, Ivy and Bethany Jackson, Elizabeth and Paul “P.J.” Johnson, Michelle Hanks and Aaron Bertrand.
The Mardi Gras-themed shower featured Mardi Gras decorations, and the bride-to-be wore a Mardi Gras costume for the occasion.
The approximately 40 guests in attendance enjoyed chips and dip, boudin and trays of fruits and vegetables, along with the traditional king cake. Out-of-town guests registered from Jennings, Ville Platte, New Iberia, Gueydan, St. Francisville and Youngsville.
The bride-elect is the daughter of A. Jimmy and Lynne Millet Broussard of Crowley. She is the granddaughter of Rose L. Millet of Crowley and the late Warren T. Millet, and of the late Allen “Butch” and Gayle Trahan Broussard of Morse.
The prospective groom is the son of Ivy Lee and Roseanna Myers Jackson of Hathaway. He is the grandson of the late Cliff Myers and the late Adelle B. Myers of Lake Arthur, and of the late Louis and Lorena David Jackson of Scott.
The couple will be wed on Saturday, June 2, during a 1 p.m. service at St. Michael Catholic Church in Crowley.

March 3 wedding date set for Mire, Cormier

Tricia and Kenneth “Tiger” Mire Jr. and Eva and Durphy Cormier Jr., all of Crowley, are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their children, Paige Elizabeth Mire and Seth Patrick Cormier, both of Crowley.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Susie and Michael Perrodin of Crowley, and of Kathy Ashworth of Crowley and the late Kenneth Mire Sr. She is a graduate of Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish and the University of Phoenix and is presently employed as an administrative assistant at Rayne Guest Home.
The prospective groom is the grandson of Carmen and Art Merryman of New Iberia and the late Norma Merryman, and of the late Durphy Cormier Sr. and the late Lydia Cormier, both of Crowley.
A graduate of Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish, he is the Training Division and SWAT Commander of the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office, as well as a confirmation teacher at St. Michael Catholic Church.
The couple will be wed on Saturday, March 3, at Pointe aux Loups Springs Ballroom in Iota. Pastor Paul Burke of Crossroads Church will officiate the 5 p.m. ceremony.
