Sunday brunch wraps up weekend wedding activities
A festive Sunday morning brunch held on June 3 wrapped up the festivities held in conjunction with the recent wedding of Toy and Johnell Celestine.
The couple was wed on Saturday, June 2, at the International Rice Festival Building in Crowley.
The next morning, family members, Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority sisters of the bride and some remaining out-of-town guests joined the newlyweds for an 11 a.m. brunch at Blue Dog Café in Lafayette.
The couple wore white T-shirts bearing their wedding logo, while others in attendance wore black shirts with the logo.
Guests at the event enjoyed a wide variety of buffet items, including prime rib, omelets made to order, boudin stuffed beignets, chicken and waffles, shrimp and basil pasta salad, crawfish enchiladas, Louisiana Purchase chicken pasta, grits and grillades and more.
The bride, the former Toy Carmouche, is the daughter of Myrtle R. Cain of Crowley and the late Joseph Carmouche. Her maternal grandparents are Beatrice B. Cain of Crowley and the late Moses Cain Jr., and her maternal grandparents are the late Theresa Carmouche and the late Alton Carmouche.
The groom is the son of John Celestine of Opelousas and the late Rosella Celestine. He is the grandson of the late Albert and Selena Johnson and the late Layton and Lovenia Celestine.
Following a wedding trip to Las Vegas, Nevada, the couple is residing in Opelousas.
John Clayton “Tee” Julien
RAYNE - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for John Clayton “Tee” Julien, 71, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 6, 2018, at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Rayne with Rev. Richard Wagner as Celebrant.
Visitation will be held in the Duhon Funeral Home-Rayne Chapel on Friday, July 6, from 8 a.m. until just prior to the service time.
A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held in the funeral home chapel at 8 a.m.
Interment will follow the church service and will be in Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church Cemetery.
Mr. Julien passed away on Friday, June 29, 2018, at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.
“Tee” was a longtime member of the East Bay Challengers Van Club in East Palo Alto, CA, a veteran of the United States Army serving in Germany, and also a member of the Knights of Peter Claver.
Mr. Julien is survived by his loving wife, Donna Julien of Rayne; children, Danielle Edmond and her husband Cardell of Rayne, Clayton Julien and his wife Cerena of Hayward, CA, and Nicole Julien of Washington, D.C.; grandchildren, Abraham Earnest, Cardell Edmond Jr., Adrien Julien, Sydney Edmond, Devin Julien, Shelby Julien and Malcolm Moore; sisters, Ida Mae Montgomery of Rayne, Joyce Zeno of Port Author, TX, and Willie Sandles of Texas City, TX; sisters-in-law, Rose Belle George Julien and Juanita Julian; and a host of nieces, nephews and godchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Roseanna Julien; brothers, Claude Julien, Phillip Julien, Preston Julien Sr. and Peter Forrest Julien; and sisters, Louise Gabriel, Rosanna Julien, Ethel Julien, Helen Antoine and Mary Bertha Fiest.
Pallbearers will be Rehnquest Charles, Delveckio Charles, Devin Julien, Adrien Julien, Mike Carter and Peter “Reed” Julien Jr.

Mildred "Millie" Mouton Broussard
MIRE - Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 6, 2018, at a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Mire, for Mildred "Millie" Mouton Broussard, 89, who died Sunday July 1, 2018 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
Interment will be in the Assumption of the BVM Cemetery in Mire.
The Very Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington of St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services.
Survivors include her two sisters-in-law, Ruby Domingue Mouton, Mary Ann Varisco Mouton, two nephews, Kirk Petterson, P.J. Mouton, five nieces, Jan Petterson Carraway, Florence Mouton Broussard, Beryl Ducote Woodson, Cathy Mouton Belaire, Patricia Eckholt Brenham, many honorary nieces and nephews who were very special to her, as well as countless friends whom she dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by father, Arvillien Mouton, mother, Eloise Meaux Mouton, six brothers, Robert, Presley, Arvillien "Moute" , Dudley Mouton, John Wade Mouton, Dave Mouton, three sisters, Mae Mouton Peterson, Evelyn Mouton Pennino, Doris Mouton Hebert, two nephews, Dudley Mouton, Jr., Ronald Mouton, niece, Frances Guidry.
All who met her appreciated her strength and spirit, which became especially evident after a stoke suffered 2 years ago. Although she had lost the ability to walk and to speak, her smile and outgoing personality were not diminished, and she made many new friends among residents and staff at Maison de Lafayette where she resided for the past 2 years.
Millie retired from South Central Bell with 30 years service. She belonged to the Telephone Pioneer of America and was a member of the Adult Church Choir, Catholic Daughters of America, Court 2214, and the Ladies Altar Society at Assumption of the BVM Church in Mire, LA. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Mire Volunteer Fire Department. One of the joys of Millie's life was cooking for family and friends and her cooking skill were legendary

A Rosary will be prayed Thursday at 7:00 pm in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne LA.

Wilbert Stelly
RAYNE - A Mass of Christian Burial for Wilbert Stelly, age 79, of Rayne will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at 11:00 AM in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rayne. Father Garret Savoie will serve as celebrant. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery No. 2 Mausoleum, Rayne.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM in Gossen Funeral Home, Rayne, with a rosary being recited at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM in Gossen Funeral Home.
Mr. Stelly passed away on Monday, July 2, 2018 in The Ellington, Rayne.
A native of Church Point, Mr. Stelly was a long time resident of Rayne, where he served as Mayor Pro Tem for eight years. He worked as a salesman for Estorage Drug Company, then as a dragline operator for Woodson Construction Company, before spending thirty years as a salesman for Haggard I.D. Wipers until his retirement.
Mr. Stelly was a Catholic, and he was a 32nd Degree Mason. He enjoyed going to the casino, and spending time outdoors doing yard work. His greatest joy in life was spending time with and caring for his family.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Bergeron Stelly of Rayne; daughters, Darlene Stelly Savoie and husband, Eddie of Mire, Peggy Marie Stelly Meche and husband, Toby of Rayne, and Denise Stelly of Rayne; son, Carl Joseph Stelly and wife, Denice of Church Point; sister, Della Mae Alleman of Rayne; six grandchildren; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild on the way.
Preceding Mr. Stelly in death were his parents, John and Annie Venable Stelly; first wife, Eva Dell Broussard Stelly; daughter, Christine Stelly Thibodeaux; and brothers, Gilford Stelly, Herman Stelly, and Horace Stelly.
Serving as pallbearers are Pye Savoie, Eddie Savoie, Toby Meche, Joey Stelly, Carl Stelly, and Brent Stelly.
