Mary Myrtle Venable

MIRE - A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Myrtle Venable, 73, of Mire will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, at 11 a.m. in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Mire.
Father Michael Arnaud, Pastor of Assumption of the BVM Catholic Church, will serve as celebrant.
Interment will follow in Assumption of the BVM Catholic Cemetery, Mire.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, Dec. 20, from noon until 9 p.m. in Gossen Funeral Home, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 8 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. in the funeral home.
Mrs. Venable passed away on Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, in a Lafayette hospital.
Mrs. Venable was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Mire. She retired after many years of service as a cook at Mire Elementary School and Rayne High School.
Survivors include her sons, Ken Venable and wife Judy of Mire, Tony Venable and wife Phyllis of Mire, Gregory Venable and wife Shantel of Lafayette, and Blaine Venable and wife Katrina of Mire; sister, Shirley Sonnier of Mire; brother Berchman “Junior” Venable Jr. of Mire; grandchildren, Trenton Venable, Sadie Venable, Brandon Venable and wife Elizabeth, Cody Venable and wife Kasey, Dylan Venable and wife Rebecca, Jacob Venable, Jayden Venable, Jacob Venable and Jace Venable; and great-grandchildren, Christopher Venable, Brantley Venable, Kanesly Venable, Jas’lyn Venable and Amber Venable.
Preceding Mrs. Venable in death were her husband, James Harold Venable; parents, Berchman Venable Sr. and Laurance Latiolais Venable; sisters, Mildred Credeur and Thelma LeBlanc; and brothers, Davis Venable, Clarence Venable, Norman Venable, Floyd Venable, Irvin “Herb” Venable and Shelby Venable.

Harry James Guidry Sr.

Rayne - Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017 at a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church for Harry James Guidry Sr., 71, who died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017 at his residence in Rayne.
Interment will be in the Our Mother of Mercy Cemetery in Rayne.
Rev. Richard Wagner, Pastor of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey Mae Mouton Guidry of Rayne; four sons, Harry James Guidry Jr. and wife Donna of Lafayette, Michael James Guidry of Church Point, Martelle Mouton of Sunset and Michael James Mouton of Eunice; three daughters, Christine Guidry Gardiner and husband Anthony of Rayne, Vanessa Jolivette Rickett and husband David of Rayne, and Twana Mouton and companion Daniel Demming of Rayne; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Earl Guidry Sr. and wife Gwen of Branch, Dallas Guidry Sr. of Crowley, and Rodney Guidry and wife Bertha of Rayne; godmother Bertha Bernard of Rayne; godfather Denver Babineaux of Rayne; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Guidry of Lafayette and Audrey Alexander of Sacramento, CA; and a brother-in-law, Dallas Mouton of Lafayette.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Guidry; mother, Vitty Sennett Guidry; five brothers, John Guy, Lester Lee Guidry, St., Horace Guidry, Robert Guidry and Jimmy Guidry; six sisters, Ida Jackson, Alzenia Harmon, Rosanna Smith, Willie Ruth Carter, Norma Jean Alexander and Rosemary Guidry.
Harry was a dump truck driver for many years then went on to become a police officer with the Rayne Police Department for 12 years.
A Rosary will be prayed Saturday, Dec. 30, at 8 a.m. in Gossen Funeral Home, Rayne.
The family requests visitation be observed in Gossen Funeral Home in on Saturday, Dec. 30, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Steve Hulin

ENGLAND - Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, in Worthing, West Sussex, England, for Steve Hulin, 76, who passed away suddenly at his home in England on Dec. 7, 2017.
Steve is survived by his wife, Ginny Hulin; a daughter, Donna Hulin Cooper; sons, Dale and Andy; granddaughter, Kayleigh Jordan (Reese); siblings, Jerry (Robbyn) of Kanosh, Utah, and Pat Murray (Johnny) of Breaux Bridge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Eunice Sonnier Hulin; and a brother, Richard.
Steve and his family have lived in England for over 40 years after retiring from the Air Force.
He is a 1959 graduate of Rayne High School.

UPDATED: Victims identified in shooting on DeJean Circle

UPDATE: The three victims have been identified as Howard Claiborne, Gregory Troy Gray and Troy Harmon. Two are in critical condition; one is in stable condition.

Three men were injured, one critically, this evening following a shooting on DeJean Circle near the parish jail in Crowley.
Police Chief Jimmy Broussard stated that the shooting occurred at approximately 5:20 p.m.
According to witnesses, the three victims were sitting outside of a residence when two masked assailants walked up and began firing.
All three victims were taken to Lafayette hospitals.
There was a two-year-old child found asleep unharmed in the residence.
There are no named suspects at this time. Police are trying to identify suspects and determine a motive.
It is unsure whether it is connected to last week's shooting on Mill St. and S. Parkerson.

Robert Trahan

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Dec. 22, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for Robert Trahan, 84, who died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, in Crowley.
Fr. Edward Duhon, associate pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, will officiate for the services.
The family is requesting visiting hours be held Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Trahan proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict as a member of the United States Navy.
He is survived by five daughters, Renee Bourgeois and husband Roderick of Jennings, Karen Breaux of Egan, Melanie Newman and husband Pacerd of Crowley, Katie Miller and husband Michael of Iota, and Kim Miller and companion Carl Clark of Crowley; one son, Jeffery Trahan of Crowley; two brothers, Jake Trahan and wife Genevieve of Egan, and Harvey Trahan of Crowley; nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Jacqueline Dupuis Trahan; his parents, Willie Trahan and Addie Hanks; and two sons-in-law, Louis Miller and Jeffery Breaux.

Mary Agnes “Aggie” Fabacher

Mary Agnes Fabacher peacefully departed this life on Dec. 20, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on Feb. 21, 1930, in Roberts Cove, to William F. and Marie Leonards Zaunbrecher and spent her childhood in Roberts Cove where she attended St. Leo School and later St. Michael School in Crowley.
At the close of World War II, the family moved to the family farm north of Crowley.
She was married on Feb. 4, 1956, at St Michael’s Church in Crowley, to her loving husband, C.A. “Ceasar” Fabacher and lived in Iota for the next 62 years. She was a devout member of St. Joseph Church in Iota, serving as a Eucharistic Minister for many years bringing Holy Communion to the sick and elderly and made her Holy Hour in the Adoration Chapel.
She was a founding member of the Crowley Weekly Rosary Group. Mary Agnes was a member of the Catholic Daughters, St. Francis Court #1519 of Iota, and St. Joseph Church Altar Society.
Mary Agnes loved life and enjoyed living it, sharing her love with her family and friends. She had a large circle of friends who shared her love for football, cooking and traveling.
For over 30 years, Mary Agnes and a circle of good friends, known as the Red Bobbin Sewing Group, made quilts and other handwork items which were all donated to Notre Dame and other area Catholic schools for fundraisers.
Mary Agnes is survived by her husband of 62 years, Clarence A. Fabacher, and three sons, Dr. Philip Fabacher and Robin Joachim of Lafayette, William (Bill) and wife Emily of Iota and Andre Fabacher and wife Dena of Eunice; four grandchildren, Amanda Schexnayder and husband Patrick, Garrett Fabacher, Jada Fabacher and fiancé Jonathan Smith, and Callie Fabacher; the absolute apples of her eye, her three great-grandchildren, Evan, Camille and Anna Schexnayder, with whom she spent hours of pleasure playing.
She also is survived by one sister, Willietta Phillips of San Antonio; one brother, Francis Bud Zaunbrecher of Abbeville; two sisters-in-law, Hilda Zaunbrecher of Breaux Bridge and Jeanette Fabacher of Iota; a brother-in-law, Jerome Ronkartz of Mowata; and two special “adopted daughters,” Renae Stanford and Nancy Leonards of Iota.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Paul, Richard and Felix Zaunbrecher; and sisters, JoAnn Ronkartz and Theresa Broussard.
Pallbearers are Robin Joachim, Byron Stanford, Bryan Leonards, Kevin Broussard, Alan Zaunbrecher, and Bob Zaunbrecher.
Honorary pallbearers are Garrett Fabacher, Evan Schexnayder, Patrick Schexnayder, Jonathan Smith, David Reed, Kevin Trahan, and Lawrence Leonards.
Arrangements are being handled by Geesey Ferguson Funeral Home in Iota. Visitation will be Thursday, Dec 21, from 2 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. until time of services.
Services are scheduled at 11 Friday morning at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota with burial following in St. Joseph Mausoleum.
A rosary will be recited by the Crowley Rosary Group at 5 p.m. Thursday and Catholic Daughters, St Francis Court #1519, at 7 pm.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kevin Courville, Dr. Nancy Walker, Dr. Chad Vincent, and Dr. Justin Ardoin, the nurses and staff of Heart Hospital of Lafayette, Lourdes Hospital, Southwind Rehab, and Heart of Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St Francis School, Notre Dame H.S. of Acadia Parish, Rayne Catholic, St. Eds, or any Catholic school of your choice.
